About the Game Refuge:
The McLean Game Refuge is a 4,415-acre wildlife sanctuary in north-central Connecticut. It was established in 1932 by former CT Governor and US Senator, George McLean on his private hunting reserve at the time of his death. Our work here focuses on ecological research and the management of a diverse array of habitats to support hundreds of plant and animal species, many of which are regionally threatened by habitat loss, invasive species, and climate change. Within our vast forests, we provide 27 miles of forest roads and hiking trails for the public to hike, snowshoe, and cross-country ski.
Position Summary:
The McLean Game Refuge is searching for three Summer Forest Rangers to complete its 2025 Summer Forest Crew. Under the direction of the Crew Leader and the Game Refuge Director, the Summer Forest Rangers will aid in the research, education, conservation, and maintenance activities of the Game Refuge for the summer of 2025. Applicants must be current undergraduate students pursuing a course of study in forestry, environmental studies, biology, botany, outdoor recreation, or another related field. Recent college graduates may also apply given they are pursuing a graduate degree in a related field. This position is designed as an internship to provide professional skills for a future career in an environmental field. This is a 10-week program beginning the first week of June and concluding in August.
Duties:
- Remove trash and brush from trails
- Build, restore, and reroute trails and forest roads
- Collect GPS data and conduct mapping projects
- Collect and interpret tree core samples
- Support various research projects underway at the Game Refuge
- Maintain Game Refuge boundaries using mapping and signage
- Interact with visitors in the Game Refuge, providing information and encouraging visitors to adhere to the rules and policies
- Clean and maintain equipment
- Perform other similar physical and clerical tasks related to conservation and recreation
Additional Requirements:
- Arrive on time and consistently and clearly communicate with Crew Leader and Director about work availability
- Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor
- Come to work prepared with appropriate tools, equipment, and attire (boots and long pants must be worn at all times)
Experience/Education:
- Applicants must have completed or be pursuing a college degree in forestry, environmental studies, biology, botany, outdoor recreation, or another related field
- This position requires full range of body motion. Ability to lift and carry items weighing 50 pound or more, often combined with bending and turning. Requires manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing within normal limits. Requires ability to hike 5 – 10 miles. Requires the use of hand tools

Assistant Coordinator - Outpatient Rehabilitation Office
30 hours weekly:
9am-3:30pm M-Th

As the Assistant Coordinator you are responsible for the operation of the Outpatient Rehab reception desk including answering all requests for information either in person or by telephone. Greet clients, collect co-pays, verify insurance coverage and information for billing purposes etc. Prepare therapy schedules, provide clerical support and ensure therapy and office supply closets are stocked.
High school graduate with additional training in healthcare field, preferably rehab setting with experience in computer and office systems, scheduling, insurance verifications and autorizations. Strong attention to customer service. Full benefits.
Maintenance Tech II
Maintenance Technician 2 is a senior level, highly skilled position in the Facilities Department with duties of maintenance, service, and repairs in the areas of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, sheetrock, and machine servicing. The Maintenance Tech 2 will execute work orders, complete projects, and communicate effectively with residents, staff, and vendors regarding work order status and completion. Strong customer service skills are required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Include the following and other duties as assigned.
1.
Works with Property Manager to manage ongoing maintenance activities of the department.
2.
Supports the Property Manager in planning, coordinating and execution of plant operations, and maintenance of plant and grounds to provide an attractive and safe environment for residents and consumers.
3.
Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory.
4.
Execute work orders, complete projects, installs, inspects, repairs and performs preventative maintenance to mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
5.
Supports Property Manager in providing training and guidance to lower-level technicians.
6.
Acts as a back up to the Property Manager as needed.
7.
Assists with miscellaneous facility projects, including painting, drywall, carpentry, installation of fixtures and moving furniture or materials.
8.
Perform routine maintenance checks of systems and documentation.
9.
Responsible for monitoring and reporting of all building systems. including but not limited to HVAC, boilers, water systems and elevators.
10.
Responsible for the oversight of apartment turnovers. Working directly with vendors to assure turnovers are done in a timely and efficient manner while maintaining quality and budget.
11.
Support the Property Manager in regulatory survey inspections and audit processes.
12.
Stays up-to-date on current innovations in engineering technology to improve the quality and efficiency of plant services.
13.
Participates in the on-call rotation with other members of the Facilities team.
14.
Assists the Property Manager to coordinate the removal of snow and ice removal on walkways, driveways, parking areas. Uses power equipment and/or hand shoveling. Is on call for snow removal and available day, evenings, nights and weekends as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

Spiritual Counselor/Chaplain - per diem
Provides spiritual assessments as well as bereavement risk assessments and interventions to hospice patients and families receiving services under McLean’s hospice program Identifies any issues or needs indicating a need to alter the plan of care and communicates this to the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT). Provides or coordinates bereavement support post death to caregivers/groups in accordance with McLean policies and procedures.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
May include:
- Provides spiritual counseling and bereavement support in keeping with patients/family beliefs/values/wishes .
- Provide spiritual assessment in conjunction with other hospice team members to identify actual or potential spiritual distress, questions or concerns
- Support families in exploration of spiritual and existential issues such as life’s meaning, purpose, connectedness and/or forgiveness. Provides individual counseling when appropriate.
- Participate in prayer/ rituals with patient and family when desired and appropriate.
- Contact clergy on behalf of patient/family when appropriate
- Provide crisis intervention in conjunction with Hospice Team as assigned and appropriate.
- Assists patients/families to discuss wishes for end of life, including but not limited to desires to arrange or forgo care, family contact, funeral planning.
- Develops plan of care with interventions and frequency of visits, in conjunction with IDT and patient physician determining if ongoing spiritual counseling is indicated and desired by patient/family.
- Develops bereavement plan of care for assigned cases.
- Records all interactions with patient/family in Electronic Medical Record in a timely manner. Evaluates the effectiveness of the spiritual plan of care and updates and revises as needed. Communicates spiritual plan of care and any concerns/issues to the Hospice IDT and to any others involved in overall plan of care as appropriate. Maintains services as per physician orders and plan of care.
- When spiritual counseling services not desired by the patient/family- provides ongoing guidance and support to team to identify spiritual concerns. Supports IDT members and other agency staff in assessing and meeting patient/family spiritual needs within their respective roles; e. acceptance, respect, listening, reassurance.
- Provides spiritual counselor perspective in resolving spiritual/ethical/pastoral issues that arise during care of hospice patients as requested to IDT or other agency staff.
- Assists the hospice program in the development, function and delivery of bereavement services as per current hospice program policies, procedures as well as Medicare Conditions of Participation and state licensure requirements. As requested and assigned, assists in the provision or supervision/coordination of the following:
- Initial bereavement risk assessment
- Post Death bereavement risk assessment
- Phone outreach
- Mailings
- Special Events
- Support Groups
- Community Education
- Volunteer orientation, education, and supervision
- Conducts home visits and all activities involving patients adhering to physician orders and all applicable policies and procedures, including infection control.
- Assumes responsibility for own personal and professional development. Obtains at least 6 hours of education appropriate to the care of hospice patients per in-service year (fiscal year Oct-Sept).
- Promotes concept of teamwork in daily work respecting the unique contributions of each team member and the need for multiple perspectives to provide optimal quality care.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Ability to be open, sensitive, flexible and ecumenical. Ability to develop and maintain supportive relationships with patients, families, staff, and hospice volunteers. Knowledge of Hospice philosophy and approach to care. The ability to identify and meet the pastoral needs of the patients and families. The ability to support staff on issues surrounding care, patient support and bereavement. The knowledge of denominational procedures and rituals to facilitate pastoral care.
Education:
Graduate of accredited seminary school of theology or appropriate certification in hospital or pastoral ministry, or graduate degree in theology/counseling. Professional training in Pastoral Care. Clinical pastoral education in Health Care is preferred.
Certification/License:
None required.
Experience:
Prefer five years of varied work experience in pastoral care, preferably in a home care or hospice setting.
