Join the Forest Ranger Program at McLean Game Refuge

Looking to make a meaningful impact while gaining hands-on conservation experience? The Forest Ranger Program at McLean Game Refuge offers college students an unforgettable summer filled with professional training, outdoor adventure, and essential land management skills.

About the Program

This paid, 10-week internship provides an immersive experience in conservation and forest management. Based at the picturesque Game Refuge headquarters in Granby, Connecticut, Forest Rangers work alongside Director Connor Hogan and a dedicated Crew Leader to maintain trails, protect wildlife habitats, and engage in field research.

What You’ll Do:

  • Maintain & Protect: Keep hiking trails and forest roads in pristine condition while monitoring wildlife and visitor activity.
  • Support Scientific Research: Collaborate with experts such as archaeologists, botanists, and forest scientists to support conservation projects.
  • Explore & Learn: Participate in field trips across Connecticut to gain insights into conservation, land use, and forest ecology.
  • Develop Skills: Build expertise in outdoor recreation, public engagement, and conservation strategies—all while tackling rewarding physical challenges.

A Summer of Growth & Discovery

By the end of the program, you’ll walk away with an in-depth understanding of land management and conservation theory. You’ll develop essential skills in teamwork, stakeholder engagement, conflict resolution, and independent problem-solving in a dynamic outdoor setting.
